should i become anorexic? I am 13 and overweight. I am at the point where the risks don't matter to me anymore

I am done. I will not live my life overweight! I am 13 years old and i want to look the way i want to. I am tired of the one pretty--also very skinny--girl at my school getting all the attention from guys and being envied by girls. I no longer care about the risks of anorexia, I am willing to do ANYTHING to lose weight. My dad often tells me that i am prettier than the girl at my school that gets all the attention but i want to feel like it to. The time has come for me to take drastic measures. I am completely and utterly done with being the FAT GIRL. ITS OVER! gone,never going to happen again and if anorexia is the one thing that will make it happen.......so be it.

I would strongly recommend against doing this. I speak from personal experience (yes boys also suffer anorexia). When I was your age I was heavily overweight and I was always picked on by the other kids at school. I thought it was because I was fat. So I became anorexic. I would skip breakfast, throw my lunch away, and pretend to eat at dinner time - only to purge it when no one was around (i.e. throw up). I lost a lot of weight for a while, but it was do no avail. Firstly it did not make me popular. Second I suffered a whole heap of physical problems - because I was a teenager and in a growing stage, my height was stunted. Consequently I am now out of proportion where I am far too stocky. Starvation also screws up your metabolism. Now as an adult I will put on weight if I just eat normal food (I'm currently overweight right now).. As a result my weight has also yo-yo'd frequently. Doing the whole purging thing also gave me serious dental problems because the acid from the stomach severely damages your teeth ( I've had 4 root canals now). I should also mention, that my "skinniness" didn't last for very long. In a matter of weeks I put all the weight back on, plus even more - and because my metabolism was stuffed, it was really hard to lose again. I spent the rest of high school obese.



I understand that it's great to be popular and how hard it is not to get the attention you desire. I know the feeling all too well. I never spoke to any girls when I was in high school because I was too embarassed about my weight. It was horrible, and I did exactly what you are considering now - where I didn't care about the consequences. But I never got the popularity, and now I am paying for the consequences/side effects now. Since your a girl you may also find this will affect your ability to have children in the future.



Becoming anorexic is not the answer. If you feel you need to lose weight please be patient about it. There are much healthier diets you can go on. Also, a lot of people are "late to bloom" in that they become more beautiful as they grow closer to adulthood. I understand it's hard right now to go through this, but things can get better if you're patient. You'll also find that things are quite different once you're out of school. Please just enjoy your time in school and don't spoil it by crash dieting.

Whatever you do, do not try to become anorexic. That is not the good path. You will be doing all this work in vain, because you'll end up eating again, whether it's your own choice or it's been forced down your throught at an institution.



Instead, do this:



Eat a good breakfast, a good lunch, and a light dinner.

Try not to snack much in-between meals, but if you must then make it healthy things like fruits.

Forget about chips, ice cream, chocolate, etc. If your going to lose weight you have to be really dedicated.



Exercise. Exercise. Exercise.

Swimming burns calories like crazy. Also, try spinning, running, soccer, tennis, etc. Try doing at least 30-45 minutes of one of these every day.



Make a playlist on your iPod that makes you want to dance. Lock yourself in your room and dance BECAUSE no one is watching.



Walk for half an hour to one hour every day. It will help set your body to a tone.



Drink a lot of water. It will NOT make you bloated, but it will help you loose weight.



In order to lose weight, you have to burn 500 more calories than you consume a day. Do the math. Record everything you eat and find out how much calories it has (try calorieking.com) and compare it to the amount of calories you burned that day.



Don't, don't, don't, don't skip meals. And don't become anorexic or bulimic. Those girls don't look pretty anyways. They look unhealth. They look tired. People don't like a sad girl that's always tired. Remember that.

What?? My sister spent months in a place trying to kick the habit of anorexia... It's extremely difficult to stop once you start. You said you are ready for the risks, but I don't think you understand what you are getting into. Being anorexic isn't going to make boys pay attention to you, if anything, they will feel sorry for you and mostly stay away from you. The only attention you will get is negative attention, you will have to start seeing a psychiatrist, you may be sent to a special hospital where they will feed you through a tube. If that doesn't work, you could die. It's not worth it. Sounds like you need a different approach to your life...

I was the fat girl in high school. I wanted boys to pay attention to me, so I know exactly what you are feeling. I was sick of it, too. I tried all sorts of diets, I could not lose weight. So, one day, I decided that if I couldn't change my outside, I would work more on the inside. I became confident, happy, and fun to be around. Before I knew it I started getting a lot of attention from boys. You know what, none of them were the really stuck up, shallow, popular boys. They were kind, funny, respectful, and really great friends. I am still great friends with most of them and I have been out of high school for more than 10 years. I am now married to a man who adores me and has never asked me to change my appearance. My advice, be the best you on the inside and it will radiate to the outside.

ok first of all you say that you are tired of people envying that pretty SKINNY girl but in fact you are also craving that look. the truth is that that girl also hates her body even as skinny as she might be she feels big. no one is perfect and you shouldnt worry about being skinny. i actually know someone that has gone through anorexia she also said she didn't care about the risks all she wanted was absolute perfection but guess what I used to think she was the pretty skinny girl at school. last time I talked to her she said that she totally regrets even thinking about being anorexic. all her families pain that came with anorexia and all the medical problems she has now weren't worth anything not even achieving perfection. so hope you don't consider becoming anorexic it is basically committing a slow suicide. if you really do want to lose weight do it the old fashion way EXCERSICES. search online for good excersices and how to eat right but please don't stop eating!!! hope this helps.

Wow, this is literally the most pathetic thing I have heard all day, no what, all week! Why would you do that? You don't care about the risks? Well, honestly, there really is no risks in just working out and dieting. In Anorexia, there are many risks. This is so pathetic and immature of you to be thinking this way. Just forget about that other girl, and just focus on you. Who cares what people think of you? Nobody but yourself. Ignore what people say and just be happy that you were given food to eat, unlike many childern in different places. If you want to lose weight, then go on a diet. If you become anorexic, you will lose all friends and your self-esteem will become lower. That is not the path you want to go down. Just go on a diet and get some physical exercise. When you say that you want to become anorexic, that pretty much tells everyone that you are the definition of LAZY! I gurantee you that if you exercise and eat right, you will lose weight.

anorexia will not solve your problem. You will wind up in the hospital and it will cost you your health, your future ability to have children, your breasts will not develop and the therapy will cost your family a fortune. ( I have a relative with this disease, and this is true) If you have enough discipline to not eat and to exercise constantly like an anorexic, then you can loose weight without developing a mental disease. Ask your school nurse for help. walking to school, not sitting in front of the computer or TV for hours will help. Stop drinking sugary drinks. Keep busy so you do not eat.



Also, please know that when you get out of school 'being popular' and all the stuff people do to 'be popular' will not longer count. Being popular will not get you a good job. It will not get you through college.



your problem is not your weight, it is your jealousy.



Do not take boys seriously until they are about 23-25.

I was alittle overweight when i was in middle school too.

I am 16 now. I workout daily and watch what i eat; but i DO NOT! starve myself. Thats just stupid. I have guy friends and they all tell me that they like girls with some meat on their bones. Its fine to want to lose weight. But do it the healthy way.

I do the Special K thing.

Eat the cereal for breakfast and the meal bar for lunch, then just your regular dinner. For snacks during the day get the snack bars. There are tons of flavors!!

Also, yogurt is great!! Fruits are good. and the V8 VFusion drinks are awesomeee! And you get a full serving of veggies and fruits each time you drink it.

Peanut Butter is a great source of protein. That's my comfort food. =]



And EXERCISEE!!

go on walks, do crunches and pushups

or even dance around in your room to your favorite music.



But please don't go anorexic.

You can ruin your life.

That's not the answer.

no.. don't take this the wrong way but you are ONLY 13 years old. I swear it will wear off. just go on regular diet. becoming a vegetarian will give you that same feeling of 'control' over your life that anorexia will, except its good for you. I was reallly chubby when I was your age, and I didn't change any of my eating habits and by the time I was 15 I slimmed out and grew a little taller.

start exercising and go on a HEALTHY diet and it will come quicker for you.



just be patient and everything will work out for you

you probably are prettier than that other girl. she sounds like a real *****.

No,No,No and ummm..... no! That is the worst thing to do I wanted to go there about a week ago and then my health tearcher showed us a video of this girl who starved herself to death. She was 45 lbs. at age ummmm..... 50 something. I;m still overweight (I started a new diet yesterday) and I do know how you feel. But that is not the answer. I'm starting that new I can make you thin diet w/ Paul Mitchell. You should watch the show it makes a lot of sense. Well I hope you take my advice. BYE!;)

Don't become anorexic. The new trend about "choosing" to be pro-ana is sickening. You are 13 years old and have a whole life ahead of you, and you shouldn't be so worried about what you look like to others. If you want to lose weight, find healthy alternatives rather than being anorexic.

don't be stupid thats not something you want to start a specially at your age. anorexia is a disease there is nothing attractive about a disease. if your that desperate join some sport stuff or martial arts to get in shape or just run every day tell your legs give out and push yourself to run more with the same though thats making you consider being anorexic.

omg no, please dont!! my friend was anorexic and almost DIED!! you may say you dont care about the risks but trust me, you will!! Size doesn't matter!! I'm 14, and 90 Lbs, I scared the crap outta my friends today when I told them, I also told them that I started the school year at 70 lbs, they were really concerned, they had to lecture me, they asked if I was anorexic, I explained to them, that I barely eat meat, and I have a fast matobolism. If you think only pretty skinny girls get the guys and attention think again - I hate being skinny, it bothers me more then anything, but if you want to ruin your life and possibly DIE for a stupid reason, then go ahead it aint my problem you seem to think that the only thing that matters is the outside.

i was one if the fat kids in school so i know how you feel. but becomeing anorexic is not the right choice. you need to sit back think about what you eat and how you eat and change that. get up and move go for walks and runs. you may not be able to run for a long distance at first but with each passing day you will run longer. ride bikes stay active. i had to loose weight do to health reasons and i started to count my carbs. you need to have a good balance on the carbs you are takeing in to the carbs you are looseing. think is that can of soda good to drink? yes it has a short term pleasure of the taste but a long term effect of adding more weight. have you parents take you to your doctor and talk to him or her about your feelings it may be as simple as a medical problem. my weight gain when i was younger was due to some medication i was on. the doctor will be able to guide you the right direction to a healthy new you. and dont expect any over night changes. you will not wake up a siz 2 over night. even people who are anorexic dont wake up a sixe 2 over night. and people who do that end up in the long run with more problems health wise then anyone else. here is a thought. wha tis truely fat who is truely fat. who puts that lable on one person. who has that right to put that lable on a person. if they look at you and call you fat that means that they have underlineing problems of their own. they need to make someone else feel bad about themselfs for them to feel better.

I don't know, it depends on how fat you are. Honestly, I don't think that you are at the point where you would be able to stop eating, I think it would be too tempting for you. People stop eating if they REALLY REALLY hate themselves and are usually at a bad place in their life, if you're asking this on yahoo answers then I don't think you're there.



I'd go on a very smart diet. Become a nutrition buff (it's actually VERY interesting stuff, I wanted to lose weight like you too, I'm 15, and I'm now thinking about becoming a nutritionist) and exersize. It will feel sooo much better if you worked hard trying to lose that weight.



If you're worried about that girl at school, don't worry. Soon enough she'll be a worn out whore that nobody will want to touch because she's filled with STD's and couldn't make it to college.

i went anorexic last year, but when i started eating normally again, i saw that i was soon binging more often than before i went anorexic because my body didn't forget what it was like to be starving. don't do it. you'll just gain all the weight back and maybe even more.

oh, and by the way, once your body goes into starvation mode, it'll hang onto all the food you eat, even if its very little, as fat, so either way, you still have to workout. you can't loose weight without exercise

exercise, eat a fruit or 2 a day, and dont eat junk food

no, stop eating as much and try to work out more. anerexia is a disease and u cant stop when u start. just stop eating as much and ull loose weight. u might have LOTS of hunger cramps but after a few days of getting used to them, u'll be perfectly fine, as long as u go dont go to far. guys HATE girls who just drop weight like that, and they probebly like the skinny girls because they have confidence in their weight and act like hoes

if you are so sure that you will have the will power to stick with it, make yourself a workout schedule that works fr you and change your diet. eat only fruits and veggies and wheat where you normally wouldn't. cut out the soda and junk food. it's hard but it sounds like you can handle it. anorexia will only kill you not long after you make it to where you want to be.
