I wanted to know, how many push ups would I need to do to be able to bench press my own weight? I heard that there are a certain number of push ups and that would equal the amount of the max bench press that you can do.

Well, in my opinion, push-ups isn't the best thing to do if you want to bench press a large weight. I go to a local gym and work out with certified trainers. If you want to lift your own weight, start working out your chest muscles and shoulder muscles. Push-ups are great as an exercise during your workout, but they don't really break down your muscles in order for them to grow back stronger and thicker. Get a set of dumbbells, barbells, and weights and start doing regular work outs. If you really wanna get committed to working out then you can join a gym if you have the money. I can give you nutritional and hydration tips on working out because nutrition is a very large part of working out. You can email me back some more questions you have and I will be happy to answer them. Also, get a good protein shake because they can rapidly speed up the muscle repair process and can even get you to gain more muscle which will equal more muscle. I can also give you recomendations on what protein shake to buy as well
hope this helps!

well i can do bout 40-50 push ups and i bench presh about 40kg about 10-15 times. but havent got enough weights to put any more on at the moment. im not sure man probably between 80 and 100. im bench presser just over half my weight about 10-15 times so ide possibly be able to bench press about 60kg once which is almost my full weight. i dunno maybe less than 80. why dont u just try bench pressing a bit and u'll know.

With pushups it's more about maximizing the number of reps. With benchpress, it's about maximizing the amount of weight. In that sense, you can't really compare the two.
Benchpressing your own weight, for a guy, shouldn't really be that hard. I weight 195 and I can easily bench that at the gym...always with a spotter though ;)

It doesn't really work that way. You use different muscles with pushups than you do with the benchpress, so there is no real answer. It is likely, though, that if you can do pushups where you are able to push yourself up high enough to get at least 2-3 claps of your hands in, you can bench yourself.

prob around 50. its really kinda different tho bc pushups is more of an endurance exercise where as bench is more strength orientated. just get on the bench press and go at it. do some dips too (lean forward) those are just as good imo

I have worked out for 13 years and I never heard of that. You need to just go to the gym and start benching. Start light and work your way up to your body weight. For men its easy to acheive that, its harder for us girls. I can do my body weight(125) for 1 at least on the bench.

To benchpress your own weight you should do 3 sets of 20 pushups every other day to give your body a chance to recover. Eventually, if you do this, you will be able to go to a one arm pushup and hold it in the proper pushup form.
This will help acheive your goal of benchpressing your body weight. Don't limit yourself to just that, try, chair dips to work the triceps and biceps together. Also chin-ups, any exercise utilizing full-body application.

It would depend on how much you weigh,I would guess after about 100 it would be close to your body weight but I might be wrong.
