What is the Mediterranean diet? What foods does it consist of? Does anyone have any Mediterranean meal ideas? Is it low carb? Is it good for weight loss? Is it healthy? I understand that the term 'Mediterranean diet' means eating certain types of food not diet as in 'Atkins diet'. Thanks.

Mediterranean Diet refers to the dietary traditions of Crete, Greece and southern Italy in the 1960's. Despite limited medical services available to populations in those areas, rates of chronic disease were among the lowest in the world and adult life expectancy was among the highest during this era. Since then, the Mediterranean diet has been long recognized by leading health professionals, educators and consumers as the gold standard.

The main tenets of the diet were based on abundance of food from plant sources, including whole grains, fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, beans and olive oil. Minimally processed, seasonally fresh and, in most cases, locally grown, these delicious plant-foods provided their health-promoting micro-nutrients and antioxidants.

Its best with any weight loss program to slowly work your approach into them. You do not want to position your physique into shock. By now not eating meats and work your way to not eating heavy amounts of processed cheese. Feta and Tzatziki are good. Also introduce lentil beans, falafel and garbanzo beans into your diet. They are each filled with nutrition and excessive in protein. Each 12 months, I quick for Lent and i do not eat any dairy or meat and lose about 30 pounds within the 40 days. Make certain when your finished with the food regimen not to pig out. (private expertise there.) Its excellent to take it effortless and you'll be fine. It isn't about what you continuously eat its about how you consume.
