Did I work my body out or am I just out of shape?

I'm 14 turning 15 by the date of my username.

Just now, for like 20 minutes, I worked on my own little choreographed dance till I got it exactly right, and PHEW am I sweating/tired. I haven't been this worked out in a year!

Did that really work me out or am I just so out of shape, anything gets my body to overheat? XD I'm 5'5 125. The reason I wanna know is because I don't want to run on the treadmill anymore, and dancing is something i can do everyday behind closed doors.

You are probably a bit out of shape if you havent worked out in a year.



Your body is a complex organic machine. It will anaerobically burn calories and use up your glycogen stores in your liver and muscle first before burning your fat. 20 minutes a day is a great start! However I would target 35 minutes a day and if your job or schooling allows it, I would try and get more exercise in your daily routine. Current research shows that the best way to get healthy and stay in shape is to work out over the day. Small bursts of 30 minute exercise is not enough if you lead a very sedentary lifestyle. Try working out for that 35 minutes or more a day but on the weekends squeeze in some extra workout. Also try lifting weights!



As a girl it may sound odd, but lifting weights is one of the best ways to lose fat! Your resting metabolism will rise as your gain a bit of muscle mass. DO NOT look at your weight to determine your level of fitness or how nice you look. You could drop a couple of centimeters all over your body but gain 5 pounds and be in incredible shape and look amazing! But it all depends on your goals.
