Question:
Holiday weight gain problems?
2009-01-02 12:41:49 UTC
I gained 8 lbs over the holidays, I'm not sure if this is because of lack of exercise, water weight or fluid retention, but my scale shows a gain of 8 lbs and my new skinny clothes feel pretty tight. I took a two week break from my regular weight loss efforts to go home for the holidays and ate absolutely terrible, and did no exercise. I mean huge proportions, a lot of chocolate, alcohol and not much water.

Now I'm going back to school and back to my apartment. Back to my 1200 calorie diet filled with plenty of vegetables, fruit, good carbs and protein. Back to the gym that is 10 minutes away, back to my regular hour long work outs and I now joined Yoga weekly.

I have plenty of motivation, and I'm sick of the crap I've been eating, so I know I won't struggle to lose the gained pounds. But I'm wondering how long it will take? If I cut my calories and all junk out immediately, will it take a few weeks or a month to lose the 8 lbs, or does it take longer to lose then it will to gain? I feel kind of bad for letting my self gain so much weight in 2 weeks, But after living 6 months away from home and being super restrictive with my diet, I thought I deserved it. I just don't want it to take forever for the pounds to go away!

I have been doing the crossfit workouts and they have shredded my body big time (removed my body fat). They are pretty tough, but the results are quick!

give them a try and see what you think. I usually do the WOD's

Also to gain weight (obviously you want a little muscle mass which is very sexy one done right) make sure you are getting plenty of protein to aid in recovery and building of new muscle tissue

OMG - I did the same thing. I gained 6 pounds, and feel like so much of my hard work is down the drain. Sadly I weighed in for today after being back on my diet, and I was still up .2 lbs. I thought it would just start melting off, but maybe not. I guess this is a good lesson, to eat a little more moderately even during the holidays. BTW, I ate a whole loaf of homemade bread, and a whole chocolate cream pie all by myself, and that doesn't include all the big dinners, eating out and drinking, so don't be too hard on yourself. You're not alone. Good luck getting back in shape!

I'd say about a week. I'm pretty sure there's some water weight in that 8lbs, so it's really less than 5 pounds you're trying to lose. At a 1200 calories diet, assume you burn about 1000 more than you take in. You'll be losing 1 pound of fat every 3-4 days, which is ridiculously fast by my opinion. Not even on my cut-weight days I eat that little. Eat often to have a high metabolism. Remember 1 pound of fat is 3500 calories, every pound of that can carry off A LOT of water weight. Muscle also burns more calories to maintain.

Drink a lot of water.

It's okay to get a break once in a while, it actually spikes your metabolism because your body's not used to the high calories stuff.

Happy new year.

First of all, you need to find how many calories a day is healthy for you, 1000 too low, even the box tells you based on a 2000 calorie diet. I would guess that 1500-2300 is healthy if you're in your teens and not really active. If you are thinking you have an eating disorder you need to seek help, you do not want something like that controlling your life it will make you miserable. Note: there is no such thing as a LIGHT eating disorder. As far as your mom goes, you need to tell her you will try to eat but be reasonable, eat atleast one serving of a sweet to satisfy your mom... I m not saying eat everything, but make an effort, it will not hurt you, just add it into your healthy calorie diet (not 1000 a day), and let your mom know that you want to be making healthy choices, do not make it sound like weight because that alarms people. Be reasonable and healthy and know your servings, but most importantly remember, it is the holidays, don't be afraid to treat yourself. Eating disorders are dangerous, healthy and skinny are two different things. No one likes skin and bones. Be safe.

Food

-50% of each meal has to be veg/fruit

-no pop

-no chips

-no candy / junk food

-no fried foods

-drink 8 bottles of water a day

-drink green tea twice a day -increase metabolism

-dont eat after 6:30

add those things into your diet to make the weightloss faster

Doing this can take off 10 pounds quickly each month

Oh nmy god, its not good for your body

You should keep your body constant with optimal exercise and a healthy balanced diet, not just eat during holidays and lose weight during school

you have to rehearse your reasons for wanting to be thin, the same way you rehearse the speech you give your boss when asking for a raise or the pep talk you give yourself before any challenging situation.
