My fiancee and I heard a radio commercial - "do you want to lose weight in your abs, your glutes, and your gams?"
What are gams? I know glutes are short for the gluteal muscles; are gams short for the name of another muscle?

Back in school there was this really naive kid named Tim that everyone took advantage of. One day, Mrs. Hingleton, our biology teacher got a new desk - so we all told Tim that if he offered to check under her new desk to see if the GAMs were tight and smooth that she would give him extra credit. Low and behold, he asked her later that day. She smacked him right across the face and sent him to the principle's office. We were all stunned silent - she smacked him so hard his left cheek was red the rest of the day. To this day, he has no clue why she smacked him.
The moral of the story, my friend, is that you probably shouldn't ask a question that you do not already know the answer to. Ca'pesh?

Gams are legs. I think of it as a term used in the late 1940 - 1950s.

It is an old-fashioned slang term for the legs.
Jambe in French is leg.
It got turned into Gamb, and the b is silent.
