My advice is to start out slow. Start with 1/4 mile and work up very very slowly.
The key to motivation is not trying to accomplish too much too quickly. If you find yourself getting burned out, reassess your goals, try scaling it down to 1/2 pound per week. If you give up, no problem, just start again after a few days ;)
Another key is finding exercises and healthy foods that you really enjoy. Some fun aerobic exercises include biking, dancing, tennis, and soccer. Try taking swing dancing lessons or joining a sports team. A sports team would also help with motivation, because your teammates would miss you if you didn't show up. A workout buddy can serve the same function. Get some of your friends to start running with you, or meet some people who already like to run.
There are a lot of healthy foods that are delicious. Did you know that berries are low carb? You can pretty much eat as much raspberries, blueberries, and strawberries as you want. I like them with yogurt. Vegetables are also extremely low carb. You can eat a ton of vegetables without eating hardly any calories. You can try all sorts of different salads. Greek salad, ceasar salad, tuna salad, salad with walnuts, salad with avocado.
Along with aerobic exercise, you should also be doing strength training 2 or 3 times a week. Strong muscles are important for your health and they also raise your metabolism.
I read a really interesting and inspiring book about running, and I really recommend it. You can download the audiobook from the link below, and listen to it while you run :)
