My friends thinks she is monstrously obese, is she? How can I help?

My friend was put on this medication and during the year gained like 50 lbs or more. She thinks she is morbidly obese & grotesque and I offered to take walks w/ her every morning for 1 hr before school. She used to be a size 0, measurements about 32a, 23, 32.
Now she's 170lbs and measurements 36a, 30" waist, and 42 inch hip (we measured each other together today to see our progress).
(she's 5'3") She's 16.
She stopped taking the med., so do you think she will be thin soon? She has always eaten really healthfully. Also, do you think she is fat and ugly, she always says she is but I don't think she is. Thank you.

I had the same problem...and it did take a long time to lose the weight. Then I found out that it could be an overload of yeast in my system. Tell her to continue walking and she may want to look into a thing at places like GNC called liver cleanse or just start taking Milkthistle...it helps rid the system of the toxins that built up while she was on the meds...I had put on 75 pounds with my meds...

Walking was a big help in losing the weight...but the herbal remidies kicked it up a notch more

Medicine alone will not make anyone fat. It might increase the appetite or alter the metabolism, but excessive food intake and low activity levels are what put weight on people. At 5' 3" and weighing 170 pounds, she is justified in thinking she's overweight, but I wouldn't call her grotesquely fat. She just needs to control her diet better, and you are a good friend to go for walks with her.



She should not stop taking medication, however, without her doctor's permission. She should talk to her doctor and express her concerns that the medicine's side effects may be causing her to gain weight in her opinion, and let the doctor decide if she should stay on it or switch to another med.



And finally, no -- I do not think she is fat and ugly. If the meds are indirectly causing her weight gain and she goes off, it's possible she might lose the excess pounds. A lot of young girls perceive themselves as ugly, when actually they are quite beautiful.

Well, it will be a huge help to walk with her every morning for common exercise, and yes, she is most likely obese.. NO, i do not think she's ugly. Nobody is. If she thinks she's ugly, tell her no, and that ugly is ALWAYS beautiful to somebody, no matter how many people don't think so.



It's great that she's eating very healthily, but make sure she's eating at least 2 full servings of fruits and vegetables, and NO Partially Hydrogenated Oils in foods. Any kind of it: from partially hydrogenated cottonseed to partially hydrogenated soybean oils, can kill you. It causes breast cancer, the disease that killed my mom.



I don't know if she will be thin soon, but tell her to continue healthy eating. I recommend that she eats SpecialK for 2 of her 3 healthy meals a day. Portion control helps too. Tell her to make sure she isn't eating large amounts, just normal servings.

I hope she stopped taking the med under her doctor's advice rather than her own thinking. She will probably begin to drop some sizes since she no longer takes the medications. But she can help by exercising (cardio) 3-4 times a week and keeping a healthy diet.

I have never seen her, but I think going from a size 0 to gaining all that weight crushed her self esteem. If she continues healthy habits, I'm sure she'll get back on track. Be careful though, sometimes that low self esteem can lead to life changing bad habits. I doubt that she is fat and ugly, but that's her opinion of herself. You should plan something fun together each time she losses ten more pounds. If she excersizes and eats well, she can lose about four pounds a month.

Well while not really obese. I think you have to be 100 lbs over for that to be medical, she is overweight.

She should loose some now being off the meds. I think it's good you offer to help.

That is all you can do, now she has to do it on her on.

I can't say if she is ugly. I can tell by how tall she is what she weighs she is overweight

i was put on medication the made me gain weight as well, and i know how your friend feels. i know i am not fat but to go from "skinny" and happy with how you look, to being "fat" and unhappy is hard to cope with. most of all your friend just needs people like you in her life to let her know that she is pretty, and if she that if she is unhappy with her looks you will help her in any way you can. eat 5-6 small meals a day, exercise regularly, lots of fiber, and greens. you are a good friend she is lucky to have someone like you in her life! good luck!

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. As far as how guys would think of her, plenty of guys like that measurement. Is that important? To some people. I think it's more important how she feels about herself. If she stopped taking the meds, she has to give herself patience in reducing back to her weight. Eat healthy- i.e. salads and exercise and give it some time.. don't panic.

She just needs to exercise and eat right, my friend took medication (steroids but doctor prescribed) and the same thing happened to him but after he stopped taking them he slimmed back down
