Yoga is exercise and focusing the mind. It can also include meditation.

There are different types of yoga. Kundalini yoga focuses on the flexibility of the spine and the movement of life force through the body with the practice of pranayama, or breathing exercises.

Vinyasa flow is a more vigorous form of yoga which is a connecting of many poses into a continuous flow that is connected with the flow of the breath. Hatha is more generic and can include several styles of yoga. Bikram yoga is a flow of poses practiced in a very hot room, designed to warm the muscles and allow for moving more deeply into poses and also burning more calories.

There are more, those are the ones I am most familiar with. There are some instructors that focus more on the spiritual aspects of yoga (it originated in India, and the yoga most of us are familiar with has been Westernized and most of the religious focus has been watered down).

In my experience I have found that Kundalini yoga focuses more on meditation than other styles, but that may also just be the styles of the instructors I've had.

Yoga can be a great friend in every diet. It's all about hormones balance. There are no "bad" hormones. But when hormones get unbalanced, bad things happen in your body. Your body releases cortisol when you're under stress. It's part of the whole “fight or flight” response. Increased cortisol levels could be making you fat. The kind of fat you are most likely to store from elevated cortisol is called visceral fat — the dangerous belly fat that’s linked to diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.

I'm following this great online program that teaches how to use YOGA to lose weight. You should check it out as well. This is the link of the site: http://yogafitness.toptips.org

Meditation may involve generating an emotional state for the purpose of analyzing that state such as anger, hatred, etc.or cultivating a particular mental response to various phenomena, such as compassion. The term "meditation" can refer to the state itself, as well as to practices or techniques employed to cultivate the state. Meditation may also involve repeating a mantra and closing the eyes. The mantra is chosen based on its suitability to the individual meditator. Meditation has a calming effect and directs awareness inward until pure awareness is achieved, described as "being awake inside without being aware of anything except awareness itself." In brief, there are dozens of specific styles of meditation practice, and many different types of activity commonly referred to as meditative practices.
